Monterey Veterans Resource Center opened in October 2013, as part of the expansion of VRCA in to the California Central Coast. At this time the Monterey office offers the SSVF Program (Supportive Services for Veterans and their Families). The focus of SSVF is housing stability. As part of the housing first model the focus is on supportive services that assist placing homeless veterans in permanent housing, and providing low-income at-risk veterans temporary financial assistance to prevent homelessness. This office operates in San Benito County and has a satellite office in Hollister. Staff is active in the community and participates with the Homeless Coalition of Monterey and San Benito Counties, as well as collaborating with the Veterans Administration and other veteran organizations that have a direct connection to veteran service. They will be assisting with the bi-annual Stand-Down scheduled for August, as well as job-fairs and other events. They are in contact with local, county and state governments and play an active role in identifying the needs of the veterans in the community.
